- understand the phenomenon of resonance in oscillations
- understand the phenomenon of waves and the theory behind the wave equation
- Understand what are travelling, standing, transverse and longitudinal waves
- understand the role of harmonic functions and how they relate to all types of travelling and standing disturbances in space
- realize Fourier formalism of pulses
- understand electromagnetic waves and how they relate to Maxwell's equations
- understand polarization, concepts such as phase and group velocity, and superposition
- understand diffraction and interference phenomena
- understand basic geometrical optics relations
