Course Learning Outcomes
- A basic understanding of unconventional resources (shale oil/gas, tight oil/gas, coal bed methane (CBM), gas hydrates) and corresponding extraction and development methods applied.
- Learn the multidisciplinary research (laboratory experiments, numerical modelling, and field monitoring) applied through life cycle of unconventional fields (from exploration to production).
- Calculation of recoverable hydrocarbons in place (OOIP, OGIP) in unconventional reservoirs. Understand the importance and application of geomechanical modelling in unconventional resource evaluation and development.
- Gain further knowledge on hydraulic fracturing and fracture network modelling. Fluid storage and transport mechanisms in unconventional resources, particularly in shale gas and coal bed methane (CBM) reservoirs.
- Being aware of technical challenges and environmental concerns about development of uncoventional resources.
