Course objectives/goals:
On successfully completing this course, the students will be able to:
- apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering to design a system to meet the requirements specified through a high level project description that has multidisciplinary-interdisciplinary elements related to contemporary issues;
- apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering to analyze a component or system by identifying, formulating and solving constructional problems;
- design a complete solution to a real life construction problem;
- apply/improve project and time management skills;
- describe different types of engineering drawings and the situations in which they are used;
- explain the requirements of each orthogonal architectural & constructional drawing for on-site construction;
- assemble the structural, enclosure, and cladding systems of buildings together for the construction system design of a given building type;
- identify the effects of the various intrinsic and extrinsic factors involved in building construction;
- acquire a working knowledge of environmental and performance requirements for building components;
- become thoroughly familiar with the function, compatibility, appropriateness and application procedures of materials;
- analyze the requirements of a given situation and solve constructional detailing problems creatively;
- design floor/wall/roof/foundation systems by considering their functional requirements expected from these systems and selecting proper materials to ensure these requirements;
- produce 1/20-scale system details, and 1/5-scale point details for the construction system of a given building type;
- represent their choice of detailing solution of the projects through three dimensional drawings by using the 3D modelling tools of AutoCAD;
