Course Objectives

To employ kinematic influence coefficients in the equation of motion of a single degree of freedom system and apply analytical and numerical methods to solve for equation of motion.

To analyze the effects of friction at prismatic and revolute joints.

To analyze the forces on simple and planetary gear trains and construct power flow diagrams.

To analyze unbalance in rotating machinery and inertia-variant machines.

To design counterweights to reduce shaking forces and moments for four-bar mechanisms and multi cylinder engines.
