Course Objectives

Econometrics is a field of economics that studies possible causal relationships between economic variables. This intriguing course makes an introduction to econometrics. It mainly deals with cross-section economic data and starts with a review of essential subjects of statistics. Then, it discusses simple regression analysis. After explaining the limitations of simple regression analysis, it proceeds to multiple regression analysis in which estimation, inference, asymptotic properties of least squares estimators, and empirical models with qualitative regressors are covered. Next, the problem of heteroskedasticity, together with its consequences, is studied. The course ends with the analysis of specification issues.

Notably, each topic discussed in the course has both theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part proceeds rigorously to help students build a sound understanding of principles of econometrics. On the other hand, the practical part aims to show that the concepts covered in the course have a practical appeal by illustrating economic examples related to the theoretical part.
