Having successfully completed this course, the student will be able to:
- Define the most critically stressed point in a machine component.
- Analyze a 3-D stress state, strains and deflections.
- Understand and interpret tolerance on a dimension, familiar with ISO system of tolerances, specify an appropriate tolerance on machine components, and a fit for mating parts considering functional requirements.
- Identify various multidimensional static failure criteria for different materials, and apply multidimensional static failure criteria in the design and analysis of machine components.
- Identify fatigue failure and load-life relation, and apply various multidimensional fatigue failure criteria in the design and analysis of machine components under various loading conditions.
- Analyze and design structural joints,
- Analyze and design power transmission shafts carrying various elements with geometrical features,
- Analyze and design mechanical springs,
- Acquire experience in using and obtaining information from engineering documents,
- Get acquainted with standards, safety, reliability, importance of dimensional parameters and manufacturing aspects of mechanical design,
- Improve their technical report writing skills.
