Course Objectives

1. Model and Simulate Variable Renewable Energy Electric Systems (REES)

1a. Develop and apply mathematical models for solar resources for non-concentrating (e.g., photovoltaic /PV) and concentrating (e.g., Solar Thermal Electricy/STE) solar energy systems.

1b. Develop and apply mathematical models for the energetic performance of PV systems.

1c. Develop and apply mathematical models for wind resources and wind turbine  electric generators.

1d. Integrate the individual models of items (1a) - (1c) into a model of an REES.

1e. Simulate the performance of the REES under varying conditions.

1f. Compare the energetic and environmental performance of different REES’s.

2. Interpret Results and Communicate

2a. Organize data and present in professional tables and figures.

2b. Interpret the significance of results and draw conclusions.

2c. Communicate work in professionally organized research reports.

2d. Communicate scientific ideas orally.

3. Design and Feasibility: Integrate outcomes 1 and 2 to develop and then communicate the design of a REES.

4. Professionalism: Behave professionally at all times, which includes being transparent with the instructor, and following all policies presented in this syllabus and other course documents.
