The course is to introduce the following topics to foreign students
- modern history of Turkey with its social, political and economic developments in the twentieth century
- providing foreign students with a sense and an understanding of history of the Turks
- Ottoman history and its basic stages, institutions, and changes
- the transformation of Turks from Ottoman Empire to modern Turkish Republic
- the basic developments of this transformation; politics, economic, social changes, ideology, religion and culture in modern Turkey
- in depth analysis of Turkish history roughly from the last quarter of the 18th century to the first quarter of the 20th
- the establishment of the Republic within the framework of the principles set forth by M. Kemal Atatürk
