After a brief introduction to the field of IPE, we will spend a couple of weeks tracing the historical evolution of the global political economy. After discussing the main approaches to IPE, the focus will be on various IPE topics, mainly history of international economic system, international trade, international finance & money, and Third World related problems, such as poverty, inequality, and environment. In this course, we will not only survey the basic IPE concepts and the history, but also we will explore main international economic institutions and problem areas. Some case studies on topics will provide examples of real life events and facilitate debates of different ideas and policy options in IPE.
