Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

1. Recognizing the significance of safety in mining industry and become familiar to the legal aspects (law, regulations, standards) and historical mine accidents in the World and in Turkey. [Student Outcome: 4]

2. Demonstrating an understanding of the preliminary concepts of occupational health and safety (risk, hazard, near miss, accident, incident, etc.). [Student Outcome: 1, 7]

3. Gaining in depth knowledge about health hazards (i.e. fires, gas, dust, explosions, heat, vibration, ergonomics, etc.). [Student Outcome: 1, 4, 7]

4. Improving the recognition and classification of safety and health hazards in both surface and underground mining. [Student Outcome: 1, 7]

5. Implementing a qualitative risk assessment (5x5 matrix) as a team work and present their findings. [Student Outcome: 1, 3, 5]

6.Conducting the accident analysis and list direct and indirect cost of accidents. Also, equipped with the ability to conduct an initial accident investigation and prepare an initial accident investigation reports. [Student Outcome: 1, 3, 4]

7. Describing and outline 8-steo occupational health and safety management system. [Student Outcome: 4]

8. Recognizing the significance of emergency preparedness and response. [Student Outcome: 1, 2, 6]

9.Conducting a team work and presenting research findings through written and oral presentations. [Student Outcome: 3]

10. Recognizing the significance of adopting and adhering to ethical principles and professional ethics in mining engineering. [Student Outcome: 4]

11. Gain awareness about ethical principles and understanding professional ethics related to mining engineering. [Student Outcome: 4]

12. Demonstrating an ability to make informed ethical choices. [Student Outcome: 4]
