Having completed this course, the student will be able to:
- Apply control volume approach to conservation laws for porous flow problems
- Distinguish different types of PDEs and recognize their characteristic properties
- Develop mathematical skills appropriate for the analysis and numerical solution of system of PDEs
- Learn how to examine the solution accuracy, validate and verify the solution
- Develop an understanding of the concepts pertaining to the “reservoir simulation”, i.e. numerical modeling of reservoirs.
- Learn how to build and use numerical reservoir models for history matching, reservoir description, production forecast and evaluation of different scenarios
- Analyze and compare model results to other tools
Concepts and skills learned here apply to other forms of CFD modeling studies as well. These concepts aid the engineer in the design and analysis of fluid flow systems such as drilling hydraulics, wellbore and pipeline flow, and facilities design. Overall, this course should provide the foundation for more advanced studies.
