Course Objectives

This course provides a rigorous foundation in pairing-based cryptography, covering the mathematical theory of bilinear pairings (Weil, Tate, and Ate), their efficient computation, and their applications in advanced protocols like identity-based encryption (IBE), attribute-based encryption (ABE), and short signature schemes (BLS). Students will analyze security proofs in the pairing-based setting, study attack vectors (e.g., MOV reduction, distortion map attacks), and evaluate implementation challenges (side-channel leaks, parameter selection). By the end, participants will be equipped to design, critique, and optimize pairing-enabled cryptosystems for real-world deployment.
