Course Learning Outcomes

1. Define linear kinematic quantities including displacement, velocity and acceleration, and use these quantities to describe the linear motion of an object.

2. Identify the forces acting on an object and apply Newton’s laws to analyze the linear motion of the object.

3. Understand the concepts of work, kinetic energy, potential energy and internal energy, and apply the law of conservation of energy to solve mechanics problems.

4. Understand the concept of linear momentum and apply the law of conservation of linear momentum to solve mechanics problems.

5. Define angular kinematic quantities including angular displacement, angular velocity and angular acceleration, and use these quantities to describe the rotational motion of an object.

6. Identify the torques acting on an object and apply Newton’s laws to analyze the rotational motion of the object.

7. Understand the concept of angular momentum and apply the law of conservation of angular momentum to solve mechanics problems.

8. Perform basic scripted mechanics experiments as a team, collect and analyze data, and interpret the results.
