Course Learning Outcomes

Learn fundamental probability concepts to understand and quantify aleatory and epistemic uncertainties in seismic hazard assessment.

Differentiate between deterministic and probabilistic seismic hazard analyses and apply them to a given engineering problem.

Characterize seismic sources and ground motion for a given site.

Evaluate seismic risk to identify the most significant sources of hazard affecting a site.

Utilize computer programs for seismic hazard analysis by characterizing seismic sources and site conditions.

Apply probabilistic seismic hazard methodology to evaluate seismic risk and determine design spectra for engineering applications.

Generate and analyze design time series for use in seismic response and design problems.
