Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

1. Recognize the significance of safety in mining industry and become familiar to the legal aspects and historical mine accidents in the World and in Turkey.

2. Gain in depth knowledge about industrial hygiene including heat, noise, illumination, and vibration related problems and safety standards in mines.

3. Improve the recognition of safety issues in haulage design and ground control in both surface and underground mining.

4. Describe and outline accident prevention methods.

5. Implement a qualitative risk assessment as a team work and present their findings in a project competion.

6. Recognize the significance of emergency preparedness and response.
