The objectives of this course are to:
Introduce algebraic function fields over finite fields and their fundamental properties
Develop the language of places, valuations, divisors, and Riemann–Roch spaces
Explain the algebraic background underlying algebraic geometric codes
Prepare students for advanced topics in coding theory and algebraic geometry
